We’re incredibly proud to announce that three inspiring individuals from Northampton Saints Foundation were shortlisted for the Premiership Rugby HITZ Awards 2024. While no single winner was crowned, to us, all three are champions for their outstanding achievements and the remarkable journeys they’ve undertaken.
"Our team are incredibly proud of those shortlisted for this national programme, a true testament to the remarkable progress of the young people we support. Many started their journey as NEET and are now thriving in mainstream education and college courses. Over the past three years, we've grown from supporting 30 young people to 120, highlighting the critical role of community-focused, holistic, and tailored interventions. Together, we're building positive futures and creating positive opportunities for these young people." Craig Phillips, Employability Lead
The HITZ programme, now in its 16th year, uses rugby’s core values to transform young lives, helping participants gain vital life skills and progress into education, employment, or training. Here are the incredible stories of our shortlisted nominees:
Tianna – Academic Achiever Award Finalist
Tianna’s journey is one of resilience and triumph over adversity. Overcoming a challenging upbringing and struggles with mental health, she found a supportive community at HITZ. Despite facing anxiety and personal loss, Tianna embraced the programme’s tailored learning environment, achieving her GCSE in Math and developing confidence to pursue further education. Now enrolled in a Level 2 Sport and Active Leisure course, she dreams of becoming a PE teacher, inspired by her own experiences and passion for sport.
Dominic Felix – Champion Award Finalist
Dominic, a dedicated volunteer, has been a pillar of support for HITZ participants. Drawing from his personal journey in combat sports, he inspires resilience and determination. Dominic’s generosity shines through his provision of free gym access, breaking down barriers to physical activity. Beyond fitness, he mentors students, helps them navigate challenges like language barriers, and fosters a supportive community that continues to benefit young people long after their time with HITZ.
Kane – Physical Activity Award Finalist
Kane’s story is one of transformation. Facing severe anxiety, dyspraxia, and personal challenges, he found renewed confidence and purpose through HITZ. Physical activity became his outlet, and he now inspires others as a mentor and coach. Kane has achieved Level 1 qualifications and is pursuing Level 2 in Health and Social Care, while also excelling in rugby and boxing. His goal is to guide others facing similar struggles, giving back to the programme that changed his life.
We congratulate Tianna, Dominic, and Kane for their incredible achievements. Their stories embody the spirit of HITZ and remind us of the power of community, resilience, and determination. Each of them has made their mark, and we couldn’t be prouder.
