Foundation Stars Shortlisted for HITZ Awards 2024

Three inspirational individuals from Northampton Saints Foundation have earned national recognition for their extraordinary achievements.

They are set to be celebrated at the highly esteemed Premiership Rugby HITZ Awards 2024, held on November 20th at the Allianz Stadium in Twickenham.

Premiership Rugby’s HITZ programme has been a transformative force for 16 years, using rugby’s core values to empower over 2,000 young people annually, aged 14-24, across England. HITZ helps participants make lasting, positive changes, equipping them with essential life and employability skills to re-engage with education or secure meaningful employment. The programme fosters an environment rooted in teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline, and sportsmanship, making a genuine impact on participants’ lives.

Jordan Letts, Head of Foundation, praised the nominees saying "Every nominee is a deserving winner, and their journeys inspire all of us at Northampton Saints Foundation. We’re extremely proud of the three individuals who have been shortlisted, as their dedication deserves acknowledgment. Our incredible team at Northampton Saints Foundation plays a vital role in delivering the HITZ programme, helping to support young people for a brighter future. They not only transform lives but also strengthen our community."

Premiership Rugby’s Laylla Stanley, Strategic Lead – Social Impact and D&I, added "Congratulations to everyone shortlisted for this season’s HITZ awards. Over the past 16 years, the success of the programme has been undeniable, with HITZ helping over 83% of learners move forward in a positive direction. The HITZ Awards are a reminder of how much rugby can change the trajectory of young people’s lives and the incredible difference HITZ has made. Each person involved in the programme should take pride in the impact they've had, and I can't wait to celebrate together at the Allianz Stadium in November."

Meet the Shortlisted Nominees

  1. Tianna – Academic Achiever Award
Tianna is a resilient young woman shortlisted for the Academic Achiever Award, which honours those who have made exceptional strides in their academic journey. Despite significant personal hardships, including the loss of her father and caring for her grandmother, Tianna demonstrated unwavering determination. Initially anxious and hesitant, she found solace in the supportive HITZ environment. With individualized support, she overcame her struggles, passed her GCSE Math, and embraced newfound passions. Now, Tianna is confident in her path, aiming to attend mainstream college to study Sport and Active Leisure and eventually become a PE teacher.

  2. Dominic Felix – Champion Award
Dominic, a dedicated volunteer, is recognised for his tireless efforts to uplift young people facing difficult barriers to success. With a background in combat sports, Dominic uses his personal experiences to inspire HITZ learners, motivating them to persevere through challenges. His generosity extends to offering free gym access to participants who might otherwise miss out on the benefits of regular exercise. Dominic's positive influence helps students build confidence, develop healthy habits, and form supportive friendships. He also mentors learners, breaking down language barriers and guiding them toward brighter futures.

  3. Kane – Physical Activity Award
Kane’s story of transformation earned him a nomination for the Physical Activity Award. Joining HITZ in December 2023 marked a turning point for him as he faced anxiety and personal struggles, including Dyspraxia and his mother's cancer diagnosis. The programme provided a safe space where Kane developed confidence, pursued rugby and boxing, and overcame physical and social challenges. He became a mentor and leader, achieving academic milestones and inspiring his peers. Now, Kane continues to pursue sports passionately and aspires to give back to HITZ by supporting others on their journey.

Celebrating 16 Years of HITZ

Since its inception in a Hackney field in 2008, the HITZ programme has made a monumental impact, with over 24,000 young people enrolled and 83% progressing into further education, employment, or training. The programme, supported by the CVC Foundation and delivered by Premiership Rugby’s 10 shareholder clubs, remains a beacon of hope and transformation for young people across the country.

As we approach the 2024 HITZ Awards, Northampton Saints Foundation’s nominees stand as shining examples of how sports, determination, and community support can change lives.
