BACKGROUND
Northampton Saints Rugby Football Club was formed in 1880, when Reverend Samuel Wathen Wigg identified rugby as a way to channel the energies of some of the county’s more troubled youngsters. More than 140 years on, Northampton Saints Foundation continues his legacy, using the power of sport and the values of rugby to INSPIRE, SUPPORT and EDUCATE thousands of people each year. Our education and social inclusion programmes inspire the current generation to learn, develop new skills, increase confidence and where appropriate return to education, training or employment.
ROLE
As a Youth Worker on the Engage programme, you will be responsible for using the values of rugby to positively impact young people. The successful candidate will be resilient, hardworking, and committed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build strong rapport and trust with young people in the programme, providing them with guidance, encouragement, and emotional support.
- Work closely with the referred young people to understand their individual challenges and needs and develop strategies to help them overcome obstacles.
- Collaborate with the Hub Manager and experienced staff to implement individualised interventions and support plans for each young person.
- Assist in setting achievable goals, monitoring progress, and providing constructive feedback to enhance their personal and academic development.
- Serve as a mentor and positive role model for participants, demonstrating a commitment to personal growth, responsibility, and academic achievement.
- Inspire young people to develop their potential, explore new opportunities, and make positive choices for their future.
- Assist in planning and facilitating group activities and workshops that promote their social and emotional skills development, teamwork, and resilience.
- Create a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages active participation and fosters a sense of belonging among young people.
- Adhere to all safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring the safety, well-being, and protection of young people at all times.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, following established policies and reporting.
- Liaise and collaborate with external partners, such as schools, social services, and community organisations, to provide comprehensive support and reporting.
- Complete daily reports for students and input into professional meetings for young people.
KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCES - Ability to communicate and conduct professional relationships with children, young people, and adults.
- Understand how to safeguard the well-being of children and young people.
- Ability to build strong relationships, work as a team as well as using your own initiative.
- Experience of working with young people, ideally those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Strong communication skills with both adults and young people.
- Committed to demonstrating the highest standards of delivery to our young people.
- Positive mindset, reliable and resilient.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 18 months experience of working with young people (E)

OTHER
This role is based at our hub in one or more of our hubs in Northampton, Kettering and Corby and the option for a full-time contract or term-time only contract is available.
