Northampton Saints Foundation are delighted to announce an expansion of our partnership with Greencore, which will see 100 free meals a day provided for young people this summer.
Inspired by Manchester United footballer Marcus Rashford’s #MakeTheUTurn campaign, Saints Foundation wanted to help disadvantaged families during the COVID-19 crisis.
Alongside local schools, this new initiative will ensure that over 100 students – who would be entitled to free school meals during term time – are still supplied with lunches during the summer holidays.
Foundation staff will transport meals directly to three different schools daily, whey they will meet students aged between six and 16 to drop off the food.
“We have worked with the Northampton Saints Foundation for some years now, working to engage our pupils and create more opportunities for them,” said Sophie Moore, SEMH Specialist Provision Manager at St James’ Primary.
“We are delighted that Saints Foundation have offered to work with us and support our school community over the summer break, providing meals for some of our families in need.”

Greencore is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of convenience foods, supplying a wide range of chilled and ambient foods to some of the most successful retail and food service customers, and are a large employer within Northampton.
The supplier already kindly donates lunches for 30 students participating in Foundation programmes every day, as well as welcoming several pupils on the Engage Plus and HITZ initiatives into the company to gain work experience.
“We are delighted to be working together with our customer, Marks & Spencer, to deliver great tasting and nutritious food to these young people through our partnership with Northampton Saints Foundation,” said Greg Hunn, Technical Director at Greencore Northampton.
“Great food is at the very heart of what we do at Greencore, and we feel passionately about supporting the people in our local communities.”
Catherine Deans, Managing Director at Saints Foundation, added: “We were really motivated by Marcus Rashford’s school meals campaign, and knew we needed to do what we could to help.
“We immediately contacted our food partner, Greencore, and they agreed to support us without a moment’s hesitation.
“We are very grateful to Greencore for enabling this vitally important work to take place over this summer – the pandemic has created unprecedented challenges throughout our community, and we hope that this food donation can make a small difference to those in need.”
