Northampton Saints Foundation has announced an exciting new partnership with Tresham College (part of The Bedford College Group), aiming to tackle the growing issue of young people being Not in Employment, Education, or Training (NEET).
The collaboration has seen the launch of two bespoke educational programmes at Tresham College’s Corby and Wellingborough campuses, designed to support young people in developing vital skills that will enhance their employability and career prospects.
The courses offer a holistic approach to learning, focusing on building self-esteem, boosting confidence, and preparing participants for the workforce. Students will work towards a City and Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Employability, which covers essential skills such as CV writing, interview techniques, and personal finance management.
The programmes are specifically tailored to help young people overcome barriers to employment and education, with the aim of reducing NEET figures in the region. According to The Department for Education figures release in March 2024, the percentage of the population defined as ‘not in education, employment or training’ (NEET) in 2023 is estimated to be 11.9%.
By partnering with Tresham College, the Foundation hopes to provide a supportive environment where learners can build a solid foundation for their future careers.
Robin Webber-Jones, Principal (Northamptonshire) shared his enthusiasm for the partnership saying "Our partnership with the Foundation is rooted in a shared value and ambition to ensure that all young people can access a relevant and exciting education pathway for them. Their strong presence in the community, coupled with their expertise in working with young people ensures that we can effectively collaborate for young people across North Northamptonshire."
In addition to classroom learning, the partnership will leverage the Foundation’s established connections with local and national business partners to provide valuable work experience placements and enrichment opportunities.
Craig Phillips, Employability Lead for the Foundation, said: “Together with Tresham College, we are committed to creating positive futures for young people. By equipping them with practical skills and offering real-world opportunities, we aim to help them thrive and succeed in their careers.”
